    What happens in Vegas...
I got a new job! I got a new job!

Eeeeek, this is the job I've been wanting for more than a year! Still with No Frills Airlines, but now I get to work more with the planes. One catch...I hafta move to Las Vegas. That's ok. It's only an hour flight away and I like the Las Vegas airport.

This will be the first time I've lived on my own (besides London) o.0 Wow. I'll have to get a Nevada drivers license and everything...

Of course I shall drag my muses along. They can go play in the casinos. ;-P And oh yes, I shall have to get my own cat. One must never be without a cat for very long. Savvy?

I just got in from LAX...
...and boy are my arms tired! (Ok, bad joke.) :P

I did a Day in the Field at LAX yesterday in the Operations Dept. Different from Customer Service, which is what I do for No Frills Airlines, the Ops Agents board the flights, drive the jetways, do the weight and balance calculations, calculate how much fuel the plane is going to need, and basically do all the technical stuff so the CSAs are free to help the customers.

It was a lot of fun. I worked hard, running up and down jetways, crawling under the planes, doing math in my head. And it was hot and humid in L.A. this week. That never happens in So. Cal. but go fig. It was crazy, and of course we had the usual drama (plane was almost too heavy to take off, that sort of thing). But I made new friends, and if I ever get a job up at LAX, I'll know people! ;)

    Well, crap.
So there I am at work, minding my own business, when the blasted SoCal radar goes down. There's a thousand planes in the air, and Air Traffic Control can't see them. This is A Bad Thing. This requires rebooking hundreds of people for tomorrow and said people being extremely put out about it.

Sometimes, I wanna slit my wrists...

Reconstruction company is rebuilding the dining room wall after leak destroyed it. Can't have the air conditioner on while all the doors are open, so it's about 100 and stupid in here. I think the computer is melting...

Applied for a job in Las Vegas with same No Frills Airline. I must be insane. :S

Why am I such a pushover?
My coworker talked me into working part of her shift tomorrow because she has to fly home. It's summertime. The flights are crowded. Only someone working for an airline could live in Albuquerque and work in San Diego. O.o

Can't deny the benefits though....especially cute pilots...;)

First thing I did today was oversell Tucson. "No, sorry, you can't get on the plane. You're too late. Your seat has been given away."

Their response? Temper tantrum. My poor supervisor is about 5 days younger than I am, and we both look pretty young. So when irate passengers wanna talk to my supervisor, and I point to him, I love watching the facial expressions.

"That's your supervisor? Does he have a supervisor?" Heh heh. Obviously they have not experienced the awesome power of CALM exuded by No Frills Airlines supervisors. Their fuse is loooooong and they can wait out any tantrum.

    Ok...sleep now...ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ....

    Creeeaaak...
    *Opens rusty door*

Wow. It's been a long time since I was last here.

    *Brushes dust off everything*
*Gil-galad, Elrond, Jack and Will look up reproachfully from where they've been stored*
    Sorry guys...

Been one helluva year, getting paid peanuts and working overtime for No Frills Airlines, who are trying to take over the world...I swear...

Was involved in a reeeaally unwise relationship for a while...ended abruptly...got drunk, rethought some things, grew up a little, gained some wisdom, learned some hard life lessons, considered moving to Phoenix, decided not to (well, didn't get the job in PHX is more like it), now considering moving to Australia.

*Dusts off Gil, El, Jack and Will to play with them again. Brings Elizabeth along because she is now a cool, swashbuckling pirate wench*

*Snorgles elfies and pirates* Missed you guys...

Just saw POTC: Dead Man's Chest. Whoa. There were some things I did not see coming. Kinda icky in parts. Laughed my ass off in other parts. Johnny Depp is a genius. That's all I gotta say.

    Anywho, tomorrow it's back to,
    "Where are you going today"
    "Uhhhh...Texas....I think..."
"Any particular city, or would you just like a parachute?"
"Heh-heh...Hey I like your guys' show...where are the cameras?"
    *headdesk*

The handbell concert went great tonight, though it was kinda sad 'cause we're losing Kevin. *jerk* :-D But he's going on to bigger and better things like grad school at (he hopes) Yale. So we'll be short one ringer...well, more like two, since he's the best one of us. :-S

    Happy 2005!
    Happy New Year everyone!

And I'd just like to say...

Happy Birthday to Richard Roxburgh (see icon)! You are one sexy beast, Rox. What is it about Aussies anyway? I think they breed sexiness Down Under.

I still have no iPod. Weep for me. :(

So I got an iPod for Christmas! :) Unfortunately, it doesn't work. :( Mum and Dad took it back and are gonna get me another one, so the next one should work.

It's raining. Like whoa. It never rains here. I thought rain just sorta went around San Diego. Weird.

My life is boring right now because I am broke... Oh yeah, it was boring before I was broke too. :P Oh well.

Like [info]shoiryu, I am becoming annoyed at the extreme proliferation of Gabriel/Carl fics in the Van Helsing genre. Ok, I'll admit the pairing makes sense, but the extreme lack of the most obvious pairing in the movie is a little worrying. Nobody seems to want to write Gabriel/Vladislaus. Maybe they think everyone's done it already. Actually people, we're getting a little sick of Gabe/Carl. Give us the vampire lovin'! :D

    Christmas is coming...
...the cat is getting fat...well, he is. :)

Just got to watch all the extras on the Van Helsing DVD. I've been waiting for that since October! Of course I went straight to the documentary on Dracula, because Richard Roxburgh is pure hotness. ;) Hugh Jackman ain't bad either.

Am now watching Return of the King, another one I've been waiting for. :D Unfortunately, no Elf King. I was kinda hoping they would throw him in at the last minute, greeting Elrond in Valinor or something. No such luck. :(

In other news, got the tree decorated and the garland put up. Now I just have to wrap a ginormous amount of presents before next Saturday!

Yay! I'm back home! My parents rearranged and painted my room while I was gone. I like it. :)

Now I've got to watch Van Helsing like a bazillion times and go get Return of the King when it comes out.

And now I'm going to bed. Because I still suffer from jetlag. :-S

    SQUEE!!
Had to have my fangirl moment. I met Sean Astin today! He was doing a book signing and I just had to go and see the hobbit. :) For the record, he's a super nice guy, and we had a nice chat about the zoo where I work and the day he visited with his family. He also thought it was cool that our mums have the same name. :D I asked him to personalize it for my mum, and he asked, "Your mom or mine?" I, forgetting that his mum is Patty Duke, said mine and told him her name. He laughed and said, "Well, it doesn't matter, does it?" ^_^ The signing was in a comics store, so after I geeked through another few fandoms around the store, we went to see St. Paul's Cathedral.

Awesome cathedral. The choir was practising for Evensong accompanied by the organ. I wanted to join them. I miss the choir. :) Well, [info]misterfizzy and I just had to get our money's worth, so we climbed the 423 stairs to the top of the dome to stand on "the rooftops of London". And yes, "Chim-Chiminy" was running through my head the entire time, doing battle with "Feed the Birds". I'm getting "Mary Poppins" overload in this city. ;-D

I have less than 2 weeks left in London! :( This city has really become my home. Ok, I could do without the horrible exchange rate, but I really enjoy living here.

    Hey, the time is right...
How appropriate. For today, I explored Greenwich with [info]misterfizzy. Found out my watch is about 2 minutes slow. Don't care. :-P I also spent waaaay too much money that I don't have.

Did you know that nowadays they mark off the Prime Meridian with a laser beam? Very spiffy. :) Froze my extremities walking back to the Tube, but hey, it's London.

    Cheers, y'all. :D

    Happy Turkey Day!
Happy Thanksgiving to all Americans out there!

I am now stuffed. ;) We had a huge Thanksgiving feast in our flat, which miraculously remained relatively clean this week. Slightly ironic to be celebrating Thanksgiving in the very country those early American settlers left, but it has provided no end of joke fodder for us and our British friends. :D

Now I must write. About what? I don't know. The prof just wants some sort of reflection on our travels in Europe and/or the poetry of Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge and Shelley. 15 pages of reflection. If I could reflect that much I would have had my degree long before now. Guess he thought visiting Oxford would inspire us. Riiiiiight. It's pretty hard to concentrate on writing when looming in the back of your mind is the very distressing fact that you have zero money. :(

Oh well. Still gonna enjoy my last days in Europe. :) I'm glad I'll be home for Christmas though. Good to be with the family again.

    Conspiracy theories...
    Dear Foundation for International Education,

You have stolen my money and I hate you. You are never there when we need anything, and you blame us for breaking things in your buildings that should have been remodeled or condemned years ago. You took thousands of dollars from us and then gave us shite housing (complete with our own rats and mice) and a $600 Tube pass. Where did that money go? Not for upkeep on the building, obviously. Someone's pockets are getting nicely lined. Someday someone will expose your scam and you will all go to jail. What makes it ok for you to steal money from poor college students? Sickos. I love London. I hate you assholes.

    Love,
    Me

    Dear flatmates,

Please stop having sex very noisily in the next room. It does tend to impede one's concentration. Thank you.

    Love,
    Me

In other news, the Underground is my friend again. :) And [info]misterfizzy likes llamas. He really likes llamas. He has declared that he wants to be a llama. This worries me slightly. ;)

    Owww...my head....
Dude. If you go to a Flogging Molly concert, wear a raincoat and prepare to be shoved around like a ragdoll. And watch out for the flying beer! But it was fun! :) They play some great music, and [info]misterfizzy was insane and took video while being knocked around in the mosh pit.

It is bloody freakin' cold here. The Cold is a physical force that just about knocks you over when you step outside. This is new for me, people. I live in a land where it never gets below 30 degrees F. Ever. Brrr...

    Dear London Underground,

Why in the name of all that's holy do you not do maintenance at night? Instead you close THREE lines on the weekend when there's 40 bajillion people all trying to get places, thereby making the Piccadilly Line crowded as all hell. You suck. But I still love you because you're better than the San Diego trolley. And I have no car here.

    Love,
    Me.

In other news, got to stare at lovely Gil-galad pics in the LOTR Weapons and Warfare book at Waterstones. :) Too 'spensive to buy here though. I'll buy it at home.

    Travels in England...
OMG I love Stratford! Beautiful little town that hasn't changed a whole lot since Shakespeare's time. My favorite part was getting to fly birds of prey on the farm next to Mary Arden's (the Bard's mother's) house. Jessica the Bengal Eagle Owl and Cleo the Harris Hawk were so cute! Watching them ingest raw chicken with great relish right in front of your face is a minor drawback. :P

It's easy to see how so much great literature came out of the English countryside. I've never seen landscapes so beautiful. It's gorgeous whether the sun is shining or not. It was so cold in Stratford that I thought my ears were going to snap off, but that's part of the beauty. Crisp, cold weather that wishes for snow, but can't get enough moisture together to form the flakes.

Manchester was a leeetle scary. :) Apparently being drunk is a requirement to live there. (I sincerely apologize to any people from Manchester out there.) :P But seriously, the first 20 people we ran into were completely shnockered. But [info]misterfizzy got to see his band, so it was all good.

From there we went back to Oxford to do more shopping and to walk around some more, since the school trip hurried us too much. We walked along the Thames and saw the Head of the River, the pub where the winners of the boat race between Oxford and Cambridge celebrate their victory every year.

Miraculously, my flatmates managed to avoid destroying the building over the weekend. Apparently, this was because they were in Spain. In that case, I'm surprised Spain is still there and that they haven't declared war on the U.S. ;P

My body has decided that I do not need any blood. If I grow fangs, we'll know why. It's so vunderful being female. :-F <-----fangs
