Ringaling...
The handbell concert went great tonight, though it was kinda sad 'cause we're losing Kevin. *jerk* :-D But he's going on to bigger and better things like grad school at (he hopes) Yale. So we'll be short one ringer...well, more like two, since he's the best one of us. :-S

In other news, this is now eating my brain. :)

Yay! Handbells - tunes or Methods?

I learned the basics of English Change Ringing when I was living in England, but we never used handbells though one tower had a set.
Unfortunately the local band in my friend's village are not very good at all (in fact, they have serious striking/timing problems & don't ever do anything about it which means it just gets worse and worse). Then when I went to Aldeburgh last year, I encountered there a super band who'd just won a local striking contest, and I was allowed to come along to an extra practice night which they had for their many beginners, where we just rang Rounds - i.e. the most basic of basics - just for learning precision in bell control; and it was so super that I felt I'd just love to find a band as good as them somewhere and have them teach me all from scratch again. Wonder if I'm ever going to make that dream become reality...

Too bad you're not here! We're just in the process of holding auditions. We do all kinds of songs, both sacred and secular, so it keeps it interesting. We're still waiting for someone to hire us for a wedding or private party. We need the money. :p

I love change ringing. I've only done it once, but it sounded beautiful in the church we were in. I'm glad we have the handbells, 'cause we don't have any church towers around with real bells still left in them! :-S Someday I swear I'm gonna swing on a rope to ring a bell. :D
