We has a cat.
The boy has been talking about getting a cat for ages (partly because I said we're away too much for him to get a dog) and he's finally carried out on his threat/awesome plan and come home with a kitty from the kitty shelter. Her name's Lacey, she's six and very affectionate apparently. I haven't met her yet but I just heard her purring down the phone. My mother's already started referring to her as her "grand-cat" because I think she suspects this is the closest she'll get to grandkids. Current Mood: excited |

Today
Is the first day I've had in several days in which I didn't have to be somewhere or see people. I had an excellent christmas, but I'm kind of burned out now. Too many people (even friends) in too short a space of time and I start going a little bit weird. But for the next couple of days I have nothing to do but mooch about, clean the house and read Yuletide fics. My gift was Or Becomes It which is a wonderful post-series Lucifer fic and is achey and right in all the proper ways. And for the first time since I started participating, I got feedback from my assigned author! Seriously, my first two fics got nothing from the people they were written for for months, and last years vanished off the face of the earth. But said person seems to like it, which makes me very happy. Yesterday I bought a new blanket which is awesome and blue and soft and warm, and snuggled up to watch Star Trek. And might have cried at the end when Leonard Nimoy started the "These are the voyages..." bit, but I'm fairly sure I did that at the cinema as well (although then I used the excuse of having a concussion). And now I need to get dressed and put laundry away, do more laundry, buy food and make the house look somewhat less like a bombsite. Current Music: Fall Out Boy - The Take Over, The Breaks Over |

I'm updating from my parent's house a.k.a land of accessible internets. As often happens, after a long time away from internets, I find myself at a loss of what to talk about when I get it back. The interwebs are a sort of use it or lose it sort of thing for me, so I think I'll describe the ol' xmas haul to get back into the swing of things. The boy got me a rather lovely necklace, the ZOMBIES!!! board game and a pleasing pile of PS3 games including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which I can't wait to get stuck into and Silent Hill: Homecoming which I've dipped into but am fairly sure I won't be able to play on my own. My mother got me a breadmaker which I also can't wait to get going on. Mmmm fresh breadables. My brother got me an inflatable Whack-a-Zombie, which I've been beating seven shades of crap out of for most of the day. I think that'll come in very handy as a stress reliever come exam revision. In other news, I missed Dr.Who on Crimbly Day but watched the repeat tonight. Is it just me or is the music really, REALLY intrusive and annoying? ETA: The ridiculous Obama worship was annoying too but I figured that went without saying. Current Mood: relaxed |

Omnomnom
So today actually went quite well. I've managed all barring one present, which should be easy to sort out, and if it's a bit late, I doubt the person in question will overly mind (especially as I won't be seeing them on Christmas day) and one of the books I had ordered turned up while I was out. I have made awesome carrot and swede and bacon soup, which smells amazing and tastes yummy, and I managed to beat my Yulefic round the head and got it uploaded. Go me! Now I'm off to watch Waters of Mars (because of NaNo and various things I hadn't seen it) and then tomorrow is the joy of back to work. Ick. Ok, right.
So one present has been taken care of by the parental unit. The two packages from Amazon have been dispatched, but there is the worry that they won't fit through my letter box and will therefore not get delivered. I'm about to head into town, and then down the Wellingborough road to do the last couple of bits of shopping, and to do food shopping. Then I will come home and beat my Yuletide fic with a spoon until it makes sense, and then upload it and then all will be well. My washing machine is making slightly odd noises, which I'm worried were my work trousers ripping (they've already been shrunk). So I need another pair of socks, my bag and Priss, and then maybe I will be ready to face the heaving masses. Current Mood: busyCurrent Music: MGMT - Kids |

OMG BEARS!
So I have written a nice little 1000 word ish thing for Yuletide. And I'm fairly happy with it, but now I'm panicking that it doesn't have any action in it, and it's not interesting enough, and it doesn't cover the request. *kicks self* Upload deadline is 2am. I don't have TIME to write something else, not with the fact that I have to go and do shopping, and I overslept. Current Mood: anxiousCurrent Music: Jay Semko - Dief's in Love |

The state of the Beth
Yuletide fic is done in first draft (yes I know it's due in 3 days, shush) and printed so I can edit it at some point soon. Christmas shopping is going appallingly. I can't find anything for dad or Kay, only have half of Dave's present and am waiting on the notoriously fickle Royal Mail to deliver a couple of books on time, which the person that they were bought for may or may not already have read. Ugh. Also it snowed today, which was nice since it was my day off today (and will be again on monday) but also not nice as I had plans which involved public transport functioning and shopping in MK and Northampton. I sort of succeeded. I defeated the people at the Borough Council who were insisting that I hadn't paid my council tax with my amazing habit of keeping receipts and then headed to MK where I bought books (some for me, some for other people) and other stuff, and refrained from buying a big blankie, although I'm thinking that may get bought at some point in the near future as it was all big and soft and pretty and cheap. I didn't find any hair dye, which is probably just as well, as I'm not sure purple hair would go down too well at work, and then I trudged my cold way home, dealing with the fact that there were many train delays and none of the info boards at MK station were working and none of the staff knew what the hell was going on. And now for bed. With many blankets and a hot water bottle, for it is still very cold. Current Mood: coldCurrent Music: Counting Crows - American Girls |
